Update 9 (the final one!!):
Here are the final renders, which include a beauty render, the wireframe, the texture maps, and the weapon stats (I added some Easter eggs because I really like them xD). It's been a long journey where I've learned a lot and it's helped me tackle a challenge from start to finish under a time constraint. I hope you like it, and many thanks to the organizers and, of course, to all the participants!
Beauty Render
Update 8: I started texturing using smart materials to get a feel for the colors and a base, and then basically started changing everything.
I created a metal material from scratch and tweaked it until I got a result I liked.
The latest update will probably be the final model to achieve the "wow factor" xD
Update 7: I forgot to post the bake. I've already started texturing the prop, and I think I'm on good footing.
Update 6: I finished the low poly version and the uvs. Now i'm "fighting" with the bake in marmoset xD
Update 5: I made a few details in Zbrush and finished the High poly. These are an image in the viewport of Zbrush and imported in blender.
The next step is the low poly version and uvs
Update 4: I finally finished the blocking adding new details and changes to make the model more consistent. Now its time to make some details in Zbrush
Update 3: The blocking is here! I've made some changes from the initial concept that I think will make the model more interesting. Now I'll start modeling to make sure everything looks right.
Update 2: it's time to post the concept!
Update 1: Good morning everyone! I'm going to start by sharing the references I've been researching these past few days to create the Kusarigama.
This weapon was created by an unknown person, from an unknown city in an unknown country, to defend himself against a zombie threat stalking him.
In a world where firearms can be dangerous and very noisy, he needed something that would allow him to kill at close and long range, and after much thought, he decided to pay homage to his favorite culture, the Japanese.
