Nautical Navigation Tool - Sextant – Kyle Smith

Update #211h ago

LOG ENTRY 2: We got a prop and a title for this piece!!!

The specific sextant that I'm going to be following primarily for reference will be the mid-19th century. I'd really like to bring some of the shinier brass elements back into the prop, but our primary focus for the remainder of this week will be blockout and proportions while further refining our PureRef and plan of action.

LOG ENTRY 1: Here we go ladies and gents, first post for the "Back In Time" challenge!

Let me just take inventory really quick of the briefing:

  • Create a GAME READY antique asset
  • MUST be based on a real antique (real life reference)
  • Time period for the prop must be between 1800s to mid 1920s
  • Can be from ANY culture, just needs to be between the set time period

We do have a poly budget to take into consideration, so we should quickly define the style that we'd like to work in.

Min - 2500 MAX - 25000 (Be reasonable Kyle, don't be goofy). Work in progress throughout the challenge should help to set deadlines/deliverable dates. Study previous challenge winners, what did they do well? What could they improve on?

Let's start with an interesting prop. If we have time, move on to make an environment render (Find the time Kyle. A well thought out and properly implemented idea is super strong).

Today I want to at least digest the briefing further and start gathering initial inspiration ref.
