Everything here is render with Marmoset.
I went for something a little more stylized than what I'm used to, just to get a little out of my comfort zone.
I wanted to represent a Tibetan dance mask, usually rather positive and take the opposite view.
The choice of purple was made in this way to take on the complementary color of green which generally represents wisdom.
This is also why the mask symbolically swallows a turquoise, the precious stone of Tibet, which for me is symbolically a “small Earth”.

Small updates on the textures, I'm adding also more storytelling detailsn the skulls arecrying, a bit of blood on the teeth
While continuing to improve the texturing, i wanted to work on the presentation ! So I have a the most basics render in Marmoset, and the one in the snow are made in UE5 🙂
Still not happy with the final result but it's way better than before ahahah

Low poly done, Unwrap Done, baking done, now time for a phase of research for the color ! I am not happy with the first test, I will need to find a beautiful color palet as for now it is... not what I have in mind but at least there is good progress !
AT LEAST ! THE LOW POLY IS DONE, I lied just the part needed for baking. As we can see in my screen there is the rope hair, but also I will add a little clothing part needed to attach the earrings,but I also think I'll try adding an alpha wood part as if wood chips were still attached to the mask
With a tendonitis ( what a pleasant wednesday where I was not able to move my arm) it's not easy to make some progress but I had some with the low poly m
There isn't much to say, I know there are a few too many polys, I will do more optimizations when everything has had a first pass !
More modifications have been made on the high but I will keep them as a surprise for now 😉 here is... THE TIME, time to make the low poly. I will make a first pass, maybe with too much poly for now, and see wich part I can modify to do something more optimized !
It's really been a while, work and personal life was busy ! So to get back to it, I worked on adding damaged details on the mask and also I worked on a part that scared me, the "hairs" made of rope !
As I wanted to see the progress I also made a bit of research on how I want to present the props, (also because it's pleasing to my eyes !)

I will not be here during the week end, so I tried to take time to refine the shapes, add a bit more details. I really need to take time to focus and really pushing the quality of the sculpt !
Last days were very busy, but I'm still working on the overall visual of the mask
As I am not following a precise reference, I'm taking time to incorparete feedbacks from coworkers and having the best shape possible before going into the detailling 🙂
Little by little it becomes more and more complex and I'm really happy to work on a different artistic style than what I'm used to!
I'm going to have to speed up my process but I had time to work a little on the earrings for the mask 😃
I was not happy with the look of the mask, as it was too close from what currently existing. As the idea was to make a more evilish looking version I added more shape on the face, making him look a bit bigger, and adding the fact that he is swallowing the world ! For me, it's something logicial as my main idea is still to represent the aboslute version of greed !
I still have more work on it but at least, the idea behind the mask is more assumed

Small update as I'm a bit busy this week. When I'm at work, I don't really have what I need to sculpt correctly, so I'm using the lunch break to prepare the smart Mat I will mainly use during texturing with a dusty and cracked painted wood

I have just made a little base on blender and now it is zbrush zbrush zbrush! Trying have something a bit traditional but with more "scary intention", with a gluttonous side, as if he wanted to swallow the world.

I really liked the theme of the challenge so why not give it a try!
From what I've seen of Himalayan cultures, the painted masks are my favorite.
These are wooden or papier-mâché masks rather used to represent saints or in general positive figures. This would be a heritage of tribal culture which would now be found in Tibet
I would like to reverse that, and create a mask hidden from everyone, representing greed, the emotion that will devour the world.
From what I have read the yellow on the masks represent immortal saints and the green represents virtue/wisdom. I'm therefore thinking of opting for a rather purple mask (with a little yellow possibly for the immortal side), distorted by greed.
Obviously you will need a bit of precious stone like Tibetan turquoise!
Maybe I will also make his box which hides him from the eyes of the world. IF time permits haha
