Still not very satisfied with Damaru, didn't have much time lately to finish it, my bad, so i guess my final will be just Kangling)
A little bit more fabric, no fooling around with substance designer this time))) Just some alpha patterns combinations
It's been quite long since i posted last, had to set aside this for few days) Tried to finish the damaru drum these weekends, but still have some work to do on textures. For UV's had to do it with UDIMs to have similar texel density with kangling, considering damaru's size as well.
For most part materials are either combination of colors with grunges and masks or based of textures/alphas with some additions through anchors(Like with some fabrics and leather).
Actually i tried making fabric material in substance designer first, but i didn't manage to do sth really cool with it, especially the transition😢
Hopefully soon i'll make sth good out of it)
I was a bit too busy recently, finished with few other details and also tried to figure out better way to do torn fabric here, tried torn fabric brushes, and fibermesh, last one somehow looks better, but still not best(In case it doesn't work then maybe i'll leave some space on UV and try cards with opacity, that is if i'll have energy left for that)))
Made some details with combination of noises and morph brush on this small cushion and added base for pieces of cloth attached to it.
Also tied together cushion and damaru, used plane base for the string, generated curve based on it and just used rope brush with rope flyaways made by hand.
Working on sculpt for damaru drums, in the end i chose to pick most juicy parts from different damaru drums and combine them)
Drums themselves are just simple sculpt and extracts, for the cushion's pattern i used micropoly with diagonal pattern, inflated and then made some tweaks.
I had hopes at first to make good base of cloth part of damaru in Marvelous Designer, but my patience ran out quickly from constant lags))) So now i'm doing this fully in zbrush)

I think i'm done with texturing for now, maybe later I'll come back to it to improve some parts if i have an idea how😅 Also made a render of kangling in Toolbag. Now it is time for damaru drum)
I've done the lowpoly(or better midpoly) and bake.
As it's not game model and i'll be using it for renders, i needed to pay attention to silhouette and not to make surface look too flat.
That and mostly not repetetive patterns would make retopology into an eternal suffering, so I just decimated the higpoly, cleaned and unwrapped it.

Slowly but steadily progressing with sculpt) Sculpted bigger ornamental part, a bit more fixes and bone to go.
Found more high-res refs for first kangling ref and was more tempted to go with it) Started sculpting the easier ornamental parts, both base on alphas
