Continuing working on the model. For now I focused on completing the blockout and have all the shapes in there.
Continuing working on the model. For now I focused on completing the blockout and have all the shapes in there.
Past days I didn't have much free time so only a small progress. I was working on part of the highpoly for the pattern, mainly trying to figure out the shapes from the pictures I have. I now have part of the shape and I will try to make the whole pattern from it, bend it around the teapot and see how it looks. This is the high poly for now, but I will be still adjusting it.
Today I worked on the pattern. I made a rough blockout. I will first make the pattern flat and I will only bend it to the shape of the teapot once its baked into lowpoly. Now I just followed the pattern with basic geometry, next step on this part of the teapot will be making a high poly in Zbrush. Luckily the pattern is quite symetrical so it will make work faster.
Started making a blockout. Mostly used the side picture to build this and will readjust with help of pictures from other angles in upcoming days.

For this challenge, I chose this copper teapot from Tibet made around the 18th - 19th century. I looked through many interesting museum pieces from the region, daggers, spears, a cup made of a human skull, and many others but I felt the most affinity for this teapot.
One reason is that I feel that thanks to the strong silhouette of the teapot it will be able to dominate a shot by itself while I wasn't too sure about that with some other objects.
The second reason is that I like the design of the teapot. I like the materials used and the patterns and I am looking forward to recreating it and making it as photorealistic as possible.
The third reason is scope. I only have a month to make this prop after work and if I picked too complicated of an object I wouldn't have time to give it enough polish in the final stage. I want to take time to light and render this object with proper care. At the same time, I feel this teapot is still complex enough to show my skills.
This is the main reference. I will be searching and posting more of them once I need them in the process.
