This project was an absolute joy to jump in and do a deep dive into zBrush and Substance Painter. I was able to stay out of my usual comfort zone and learned a lot. Thank you to the Sierra Division team.

Breakdown
I have had to do some extra zbrush work to get some proper masking, but now I have moved on to materials. Right now this is my first pass. Not totally happy, but I will be running some roughness passes, color passes, and cleaning up the wood, top and bottom, and the top knob piece.
Finally got my asset to a final state. Next step is the decimatiuon, clean up, retopology, bake, and material. Thankfully I have a good set up for rendering set aside for this. I was extremely side tracked with another project that finished up, so I should be able to make this by the due date.
A little behind on where I want to be. I am currently helping another large group project cross the finish line and hope to have a lot more of this done by the end of the weekend. A lot of trial and error to get where I am. But I have a workflow now.
This is a big break from my usual workflow as I hope to learn and utilize as much of zBrush as possible. So this will end up being a sort of boot camp to get back into form for using this powerful program. And starting off with a quick blockout.
My asset is a Tibetan Handheld Prayer Wheel. I have always been fascinated by the Tibetan wheels and wanted to take time to explore and research these items. My personal goal with this project is to step outside of my comfort zone and work on high detailed ornamental design and a stronger emphasis on materials for this piece.
Asset inspiration:
This will be a mixed asset utilizng multiple references to create a respectable prayer wheel. The material plans are weathered silver, wood, and turqoise.

Prayer wheels are an example of Buddhist technology. This technology allowed the faithful to multiply the number of prayers they expressed by millions. This is because prayer wheels are filled with copies of mantras (sacred spells associated with particular deities) such as the mantra of Avalokiteshvara, “om mani padme hum.” Prayer wheels range in size from small hand-held wheels to large wheels set into the wall of a building, like moveable pillars.
